Here is a picture of me paddling a wooden kayak that I built. I am paddling on Lake Bonaparte, which is in the Adirondacks of New York State. This was one of first outings and the kayak handled real nice. Kayaking is one of my favorite pastimes as it is very relaxing and puts you in close touch with nature.
The strips are made of red cedar which are glued together over a set of forms. The kayak is then sanded, enveloped in a fiberglass cloth (which is transparent) and then varnished.
It took me two winters to complete with about 160 hours of physical time and probably that much more mentally. It is 19 feet long and 21 inches wide, weighing in at 44 pounds.
